Route One (Short)

"Middlegate Loop" | 20.4 Miles (Shorter Route) | £10.00

Total Elevation: 835 feet

[/fusion_title][fusion_text columns="" column_min_width="" column_spacing="" rule_style="default" rule_size="" rule_color="" hide_on_mobile="small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility" class="" id=""]

Both the 20 and the 60 mile rides share the same route for the first 10 miles. The 20 mile route is designed to offer a challenge to those who have just taken up cycling, or who want to cycle as a family – hence the reason for keeping the entry fee down to £8. Having negotiated Barton, the route climbs gently for approximately 3.5 miles, allowing time to take in the breathtaking views across to the Humber Bridge. Once on the ridge of Middlegate Lane, the Ancholme valley stretches out to the right, and on a clear day it is possible to see Lincoln Cathedral on the distant horizon. After the split, the route tracks back to Barton through rural farmland on virtually traffic free roads, – watch out for the final leg tester climbing out of Deepdale! There is a feed station on this route located around the half-way point too! Download the HBS Short Route .gpx file here.

20 miles not quite enough? 60 a "bridge" too far?! Try the "Wootton Wheel" and "we'll" see you on the long route next year. This route splits from the 60 after approximately 15 miles and takes a direct route to the hospitality of our acclaimed feed station, where you will rejoin the 60 mile route. Download the HBS Medium Route .gpx file here.

Both the 20 and the 60 mile rides share the same route for the first 10 miles but on the longer route you will enjoy the “motorway” ride down towards Wooton, before heading off through Kirmington to the first of 2 category 4 climbs. The climb up through Caistor is steep – keep your fingers crossed that the lights are on green!! The descent through Brocklesby towards Ulceby is stunning; keep your eye out for Thornton Abbey’s enormous fortified gatehouse, which is said to be the largest, and amongst the finest in England. The loop around Goxhill offers some of the quietest roads in the area, with the North Sea ferry terminal on the far bank to your right, and the Humber Bridge in the distance to your left. There is a feed station on this route located at Ulceby Village Hall. Download the HBS Long Route .gpx file here.
